I Told Them My Little Secret...

Sorry for leaving you in suspense… I just had to.😀😉

But what did I do?🤷‍♀

So, I met the guy and we started out as friends, graduated to becoming best pals and then one faithful day, I went visiting and during our long unending chit-chat, he asked me out, OMG😯… what? this is someone that I like and would love to share a connection with so why not? Wait!!! I don’t want to disobey my parent😟… Hmm to cut the long story short… I agreed😍. Wow, it was a strong one, so I started dating without my parents’ consent, I don’t know if you know how that feels, but I must say, the feeling is scary because I felt like my parent will kill me if they get to know that I am dating at a time when I am supposed to be in strong love with my studies, also, if you respect your parent, you will know that the feeling is kind of scary also, if my cousins get to know and told my parent I would have just signed my death warrant. This made me tell the new boo to let us keep the relationship on a low till I am ready to tell my parents and lucky me… he agreed.

A year passed, two years, I was still scared to tell my parents, because, I felt it wasn’t time yet. I always prayed to God to help me to be able to tell them but I guess it wasn’t just time because I always got cold feet whenever I tried telling them. As if that wasn’t enough, my mom still told a grown-up lady like me that there is nothing a guy can do for me, really?... this made me even more scared of telling them, I mean, two years? Wow. But this faithful day, just like I used to ask God to help me to be able to tell them… God said “when the time comes you will have the confidence to tell them and expect the time soon.” And I was like God, are you kidding me right now?😪😓 Really, soon can be a whole year for you and I am tired of hiding this relationship, but I am scared of telling them.😓 All He said to me is to wait for the time... OK! We wait then...

Fast-forward ⏩, birthdays are special days in my family, whenever we had a celebrant in the family, we would wait till 12am so as to sing and pray for the person, it was the same for me on the 25th of August, 2020. Prayer started by 12:30am on my birthday the exact time my mother gave birth to me, that was good because they can't even start by 12am because I was busy thanking God and my boo also called me to pray and sing for me 😉😘😍.

Prayer time and Singing time came and left, that is when it happened... Yes...  The confidence came, and I sat in front of my parents and told them, "I have got something to say, I have always wanted to tell you but I just didn't get the go ahead from God, but now is the time, I have a boyfriend" What?... Did that just come outta my mouth? 🤔😲.

Lo and behold, my parents didn't kill me... Dad told me it is OK that I waited this long to tell them and that it is OK, he just needs me to pray more about it. And I was like OK, and then they asked for his Name and they asked to see his picture, and my mom was like she knew... 😲😲🙆‍♀ how come? Mothers🙄. But long story short my parents didn't kill me, and I told them my long time secret. This experience taught me to always listen to God when He speaks to me, because I could have just rashly mentioned my relationship when I was tired of hiding it, and I could have landed in trouble...  But... When I listened to God, it went smoothly, although I still got cold feet when I left them for my room, but, I was happy and I  am now free...  That is my secret, now exposed... 🙂☺.

How often do you listen to God?

We have been talking about goal setting in relationships, period of singleness and the likes all the way, but today, I decided to let us in on something really different today, A SECRET about me. It really is not a secret, because some people know about it, but the reason why I call it a secret, I will tell you soon.

So, a little about me, I am from a family of 5, Dad, Mom, two younger brothers, and I. Yes, I am the first and you know what it means to be the first child, a lot of responsibilities and expectations. I am telling you this because I want to tell you something that has to do with me, my parents, and my relationship. My parent are people that don’t force their children into doing anything, they would rather let us learn by ourselves but they make sure that that they set boundaries as to what we can and cannot do, what time to do some certain things and other stuffs.

Just like and most Nigerian parents, my father and mother told me that there is time for everything which includes dating and any serious thing with the opposite sex, and my mom always told me that there is nothing a guy can  give me other than to get me pregnant and jilt me… as young as I was then, I still didn’t believe what she said, but whenever she said that to me all I did was nod in agreement, so for years I tried to make myself believe and act in line with that which my mother always told me.

Secondary school days came, and guys came with them, the handsome, the not so handsome, the ones I didn’t like, and the ones I tripped for even as young as I was, but when they come to ask me out, I told them in my tiny voice “I am not ready for a relationship”. But how long will I do that for?... the truth remains that there were some of them that I liked too, even though I didn’t know what it takes to actually get into a relationship then. Now in my senior secondary school days, I said my first yes to a senior of mine… but don’t worry, I soon told him that I am no more interested, why? He didn’t bully me neither did he ask for anything nasty… but I didn’t like his way of life… a lot of stories to tell after this… don’t worry, nothing bad. Don’t be scared.

Life went on and after secondary school, I gained admission into Obafemi Awolowo University and I told myself that I would be obedient to my parent and not let any guys deceive or distract me… 100 level, 200 level… I soon got that guy that I couldn’t resist … it happened again… (lol)…

WHAT DID I DO THIS TIME?
